This exhibition catalogue is an important historical document: it accompanied the first major retrospective of Stefan Szczesny’s work, the 1988 exhibition ‘Szczesny. Bilder 1978–1987’ at the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Bonn. Curated by the renowned art critic Klaus Honnef, the show featured a representative selection of works from Szczesny’s decisive early years, tracing the artist’s transition from abstraction to the figurative modes of the ‘Neue Wilde’.
