Description

This screen print forms part of a series of prints which Stefan Szczesny produced in 2000 and which takes as its reference point and inspiration the island of Mallorca. This particular choice is owed to the artist’s predilection for the Mediterranean in general and a particular fondness of Spanish culture. In ‘Flamenco dancer’, typical local elements (cypress tree, palm tree, mountain, sea and mule) frame a female figure in a classic flamenco pose, suggesting both the sensual expressiveness and the specific rigour that often seems characteristic of Spanish culture.
