This beautiful book, bound in luxurious blue velvet, is aptly entitled ‘Images érotiques’ – and yet shows much more than the typical Szczesny nudes. The book was produced for an important single exhibition of Szczesny’s work at Kunsthalle Mannheim in 2005, which had, as its spectacular centrepiece, a giant nude that the artist had painted en plein air on the beach of Saint-Tropez. A comprehensive text section includes an introduction by the former director of Kunsthalle Mannheim (Rolf Lauter), an interview with the artist and an essay by Szczesny-adept Frédéric Ballester. High-quality reproductions of the works displayed in the exhibition give deep insight into the artist’s sensual world, in which ‘woman’ has become a symbol of vitality and joie de vivre.
