SZCZESNY – LEMONS – MALLORCA SUITE (PAPER)

Description

“Lemons – Mallorca Suite” forms part of a series of prints which Stefan Szczesny produced in 2000 and which takes as its reference point and inspiration the island of Mallorca. This particular choice is owed to the artist’s predilection for the Mediterranean in general and a particular fondness of Spanish culture. In ‘Lemons’, black silhouettes of a windmill and a fruit bowl are set against a generic ‘Mediterranean’ background of bright and fresh lemons. The very blackness of the silhouettes and the stark contrast thus produced suggest the searing heat of a Mallorcan summer day. Such silhouettes frequently appear in Stefan Szczesny’s work.
