This book offers insight into an aspect of Stefan Szczesny’s work that is less well known but fascinating: portraits of idols of the artist, dating from the late 80s and early 90s. The portraits depict visual artists (such as El Greco, Delacroix or Gauguin), writers (e.g. James Joyce and Marcel Proust) and musicians (e.g. Beethoven, Wagner, and Stravinsky) – all of whom were heroes and models for Szczesny, exerting great influence on his development as an artist. Stylistically, too, these works are unique in Szczesny’s oeuvre. The books opens with a collection of aphoristic quotations by Szczesny and two art historical essays. It also includes a short biography and bibliography.
